SSSIO Queensland Region – Afghan Community Service Activity

SSSIO Queensland Region recently undertook a service activity to assist the Afghan community in light of the recent crisis in Afghanistan. SSSIO Queensland reached out to the Queensland Afghan Community Association and enquired how we could best support them during these challenging times. The president of the Afghan Community Associated advised that spiritual support would be the most valuable service SSSIO QLD could provide during this time due to the impact of the stress people were facing as a result of the unfolding crisis in their country.

SSSIO QLD Region in conjunction with the Baha’i community and the Tzu Chi Foundation organised A Prayers for Peace session to pray for a more peaceful situation in Afghanistan. The Afghan Community Association also dialled in to the session. The session commenced with a  guided meditation session followed by a prayer from the Tzu Chi Foundation. This was followed by a reading of the scriptures from the Baha’i community and finally concluded with songs lead by the Sai Young Adults of Queensland. At the conclusion of the prayer session the guests were provided with light refreshments. The Afghan Community Association expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtfulness and generosity of all three organisations coming together to pray for their community.
